Project status

 

Silverton Wind Farm Developments has finalised and submitted a Development Application to the NSW Department of Planning, as required under Part 3A of the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The Environmental Assessment went on public exhibition between 1 October 2008 and 3 November 2008. Silverton Wind Farm Developments has considered the issues raised in the submissions received from the public exhibition period and has prepared a Preferred Project and Submissions Report to respond to these issues.

On 24 May, the Silverton Wind Farm received Project Approval for the construction and installation of 282 wind turbines and associated infrastructure, in addition to Concept Approval for the entire site, comprising 598 wind turbines and associated infrastructure.

Environmental Assessment

On the 1 October 2008, Silverton Wind Farm Developments submitted the Environmental Assessment to the NSW Department of Planning, as required under Part 3A of the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The Environmental Assessment was on public exhibition over the period 1 October to 3 November 2008.

Following this public exhibition period, Silverton Wind farm Developments prepared a Preferred Project and Submissions Report to respond to the issues raised. Download the Preferred Project and Submissions Report.

Development Approval

On 24 May 2009, pursuant to s75J of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, the NSW Minister for Planning, the Honourable Kristina Keneally MP granted Project Approval for the first phase of the Silverton Wind Farm, comprising the construction and operation of 282 wind turbines, and associated infrastructure, including a 24 kilometre transmission line from the wind farm site to Broken Hill.

In addition, the Minister provided Concept Approval for the Silverton Wind Farm, comprising the construction, operation and decommissioning of up to 598 wind turbines and associated infrastructure.

Commonwealth Approval

On 13 May, under Section 75 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Commonwealth), Stage 1 of the Silverton Wind Farm was declared to be “Not a Controlled Action”.

Next Steps

Silverton Wind Farm Developments is advanced in the tendering process of selecting the wind turbine supplier and the construction contractors for the first construction stage of the wind farm. Please note that Silverton Wind Farm Developments is planning to deliver the wind farm through one or more contracts for the supply of turbines and all necessary civil and electrical works and is not likely to directly employ individuals or companies. If you are an individual or a company wishing to be part of the construction of the wind farm, please monitor this website for news of the successful tenderers and contact them directly.

Silverton Wind Farm Developments will continually update the website to provide more detailed information upon award of all major contracts.

Project and Submission Report

Following public exhibition of the Silverton Wind Farm Environmental Assessment, the Department of Planning provided the submissions received to Silverton Wind Farm Developments to respond to the issues raised in accordance with Section 75H of the NSW Environmental and Planning Assessment Act 1979. Silverton Wind Farm Developments has considered the issues raised in the submissions and has prepared a Preferred Project and Submissions Report to respond to these issues.

This Report had a dual purpose:

  • Redefine the Stage 1 area which is the subject of project approval
  • Consider and respond to the issues raised in the submissions to the Silverton Wind Farm EA.
